About Us
St.
Andrew's Presbyterian Church Streetsville is an historic congregation
founded in 1822 and has continuously serviced the village of
Streetsville and its surrounding area for over 180 years. The building
housing our main auditorium was built in 1867 and has been designated
an historic building. Our modern gymnasium and activity center was
built in 2001 to provide facilities and resources for effective
ministry in the new millennium.
Our Core Values
In
the pursuit of our stated mission, our congregation established the
following core values to help guide our lives as individuals and our
life as a congregation.
1. We are inspired by Jesus
Christ to reach out to others through our personal invitation,
collective activity and gracious sharing of our faith. (Matthew
28:19-20; Luke 15; John 1:43-51; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 3:15)
2. We believe in building strong
relationships which nurture wholeness and belonging through one-on-one
interaction and small groups. (John 13:34-35; Acts 2:42-47;
1 Corinthians 13: Luke 1:17; Hebrews 10:25)
3. We seek to reach people
early, help them grow spiritually throughout their lives to become the
whole person God wants them to be. (Ephesians
4:12b-15; Philippians 1:6; Colossians 2:6-7; 1 Timothy 4:12; Proverbs
22:6)
4. We believe that through
prayer, worship and service we acknowledge that God is the center of
all we do. (Psalm 150; John 4:23-24; Philippians 4:6-7;
Ephesians 6:7)
5. We believe that all preaching
and teaching should be Biblically-based, meet the needs of people and
be understood and applied to daily life. (2
Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:23-25)
6. We challenge followers of
Christ to a life of authenticity, integrity and growth.
(Ephesians 4:20-25; Colossians 3:5-10; Hebrews 12:1-3)
7. We believe that we are called
to strive for excellence that honours God in all aspects of our lives. (Malachi
1:6-14; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:17)
8. We believe that God calls
followers of Christ to discover their S.H.A.P.E. (spiritual gifts,
heart/passion, abilities, personality traits, experience) and to serve
accordingly. (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12: Ephesians 4:7,
11-13; 1 Peter 4:10-11)
9. We believe that leadership
responsibility should be entrusted to those who have the appropriate
gifts and seek to live their lives according to Biblical principles. We
will support our leaders
by offering them opportunities for growth. (Acts
6:2-5; Romans 12:8; 1 Timothy 4:11-16; Philippians 3:12-16; 1 Timothy
5:17-18)
10. We are called to be good
stewards of the resources entrusted to us and to acquire the resources
needed to support God's work. (Matthew 25:14-30; Exodus
35:4-36:7)
11. We are a congregation of the
Presbyterian Church in Canada enriched by a diversity of backgrounds
and perspectives united in our common faith. (Psalm
133:1; 1 Corinthians 9:20-23; Romans 15:7; Philippians 2:1-11)

Our Staff
Our
congregation's ministry is built upon the volunteer participation of
its members as we share the tasks of caring for our family of faith and
the communities in which we live. Equipping and enabling that ministry,

Rev. Dr. Douglas McQuaig, B.A.,
M.Div., D. Min., Minister
Doug
became the minister of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Streetsville
when he was inducted in June, 1991. He came to St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church Streetsville from Alma St. Presbyterian Church in
Thomas, Ontario, having previously served the congregations of
Riverside Presbyterian Church in Windsor, Ontario and Almonte
Presbyterian Church in Almonte, Ontario. Doug is married to Liz and
they have three grown children and five grandchildren.
During
his second year of ministry in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
Streetsville, Doug led the congregation through a strategic planning
process that also served as the On-Site Supervised Project for his
Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena,
California. Doug was awarded his Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller
Seminary in May, 1993. This Strategic Plan entitled, "An Historic
Village Church with a Heartbeat for Today's City" provided the
foundation and direction of the congregation's ministry over the next
ten years.
An
important component of Doug's ministry during those ten years was to
lead the congregation through a major expansion and enhancement project
that culminated in the completion of a major addition to and the
complete renovation of the historic church building. The addition of a
new gymnasium-auditorium with completely refurbished educational and
congregational facilities was designed to meet the needs of our young
families and youth.
A
number of passions drive Doug's ministry and are key to the strengths
of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Streetsville.
a) Preaching
/ Teaching - On Sunday mornings, Doug prefers to develop
thematic series or to work systematically through a section or a book
of the Bible. Expositional at its roots, he places considerable
emphasis on the practical, life-related application of Biblical
principles in daily life.
b) Music and Worship - The principles of faith are
not simply learned by the careful study of Scripture. They are also
experienced and expressed in meaningful encounters with God and His
people. The Sunday worship experience is an essential part of that
process. The Sunday worship experience at St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church Streetsville is best described as a blending of traditional and
contemporary elements that include a Praise Team accompanied by
keyboard, guitars and percussion; lay participation in the reading of
Scripture and the enacting of drama; choral presentations by Children's
and Adult Choirs; seasonal liturgies during Advent and Easter.
c) Small Group Ministries - The most effective
environment for personal and spiritual growth is in small groups of
8-12 people where study, discussion and personal accountability enable
participants to discover and incorporate truths that are real and
meaningful to them. Among the many small group ministries at St.
Andrew's Presbyterian Church Streetsville, The Alpha Course and related
follow-up ministries provide people with this invaluable experience
that can last a lifetime. It is also in the context of these small
groups that the most important relationships and friendships are
established.
d) Change, Growth and Renewal - One of the apparent
constants in today's society and in the communities in which we live is
change. This is certainly true of our community and our church.
Although change can be difficult and disruptive, it can also bring
growth and renewal was we try new approaches and as we respond to new
opportunities. We are currently involved in Natural Church Development
as a process for understanding and managing change as we refocus our
ministry for the future.
